Who is our Client?
Our client is a global leader in market intelligence and price reporting. The platform covers commodity prices and forecasts across raw materials, packaging, energy, and related industrials. As an IOSCO-assured price reporting agency, many of the client’s prices are proprietary — the only place in the world where they can be found.
But this is not a data company. The data is the enabler. What the platform provides is the ability to create strategy, manage margins, and extract actionable insight from that data — through forecasting, cost models, and analytical tools used by procurement teams, manufacturers, and retailers across the global food supply chain.
The Challenge: Making Prices Useful
The platform’s customers — from procurement teams at major retailers to commodity traders — need to build cost models for their products. A cost model is essentially a recipe: what ingredients go into a frozen lasagna, how much of each, and which of the client’s price series represents each ingredient.
The problem: building a cost model manually was slow, complex, and required deep expertise.
- Recipe knowledge gap. Buyers often don’t know the full composition of the products they purchase.
- Time. Even with full knowledge, manually searching and inputting each ingredient one by one is a significant exercise — especially for customers modeling hundreds of products.
The result: a powerful product that many customers weren’t using because the barrier to entry was too high.
Our Approach: Embedded, Not Outsourced
nexamind joined our client’s AI squad as an embedded partner — not as an external vendor delivering against an SOW. A nexamind AI product manager worked daily alongside the client’s Principal AI Product Manager and engineering team, sharing systems, standups, and decision-making.
This model was deliberate. Our partner chose to work with an external specialist — not as a permanent dependency, but for acceleration.
What We Built — Together
Over 12+ months of embedded collaboration, nexamind and the client jointly designed and built a series of AI capabilities that now form the backbone of the platform’s AI solution.
AI-Powered Cost Model Builder
A chat-based interface that guides users through building a complete cost model — from product name to finished model — in minutes instead of hours. Users can fine-tune at every step or let the AI handle the full flow.
AI-Powered News & Article Search
A new end-to-end search feature with redesigned UI and AI-powered retrieval, accelerating how customers find and consume the platform's market analysis and news content.
AI Data Match for Sales
AI-driven functionality that identifies overlaps between a prospect's product portfolio and the platform's data coverage — now fully embedded in the sales process.
AI Data Pipeline
The client's first AI-powered data pipeline, improving data quality and enabling AI-driven data enrichment across the platform.
Impact at a Glance
Why It Works: Augmented, Not Artificial
The client’s approach to AI is deliberately not about replacing human expertise. With world-leading commodity analysts — some with 30+ years in cocoa, coffee, and other markets — AI needs to work alongside the expert, not pretend to be one.
The cost model builder keeps humans in the loop at every step. Users can override AI suggestions, manually edit any component, and switch between guided and manual modes. The AI handles the heavy lifting — recipe generation, series matching, quantity estimation — while the user retains full control.
